Launch of the genome-edited tomato with increased GABA in Japan

Today, we submitted the notification to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) as well as the documentation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) regarding our genome edited tomatoes with increased GABA developed in collaboration with the University of Tsukuba.

We also have decided to market our increased GABA genome-edited tomato with Sicilian Rouge High GABA” in collaboration with our affiliate Pioneer EcoScience Co., Ltd. . Sicilian Rouge High GABA is a tomato developed by using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology -a new breeding technology. GABA is one type of amino acid that has recently been attracting attention as a functional component. GABA is expected to assist with relaxation and help to lower blood pressure.
