Genome-edited high GABA tomatoes completed the USDA AIR process

small plants sanatech seed

Through Am I Regulated (AIR) Process, Sanatech Seed Co., Ltd. requested a confirmation from APHIS and received the response letter that USDA does not consider our genome edited HIGH GABA tomato line to be regulated pursuant to 7 CFR part 340. In the other words, our product was confirmed that it is not itself a plant pest and no plant pest sequences and no foreign DNA were integrated into the plant genome of tomato.

This is the first case in Japan as a plant using genome editing technology. We are developing products under our vision, “For Tomorrow’s Children and the Earth”. Sanatech Seed has now taken a further step to commercialization of a genome edited crop, with the intent to eventually bring the first such crop to the market in Japan, following its full regulatory review.
